People use Search every day to discover the best online content available. In addition to the automated tools and policies we’ve had in place for a while to combat spammers, we also actively combat new strategies that try to manipulate our search results by using subpar content. To effectively address these changes and keep providing users with high-quality websites and helpful content, we update those policies and processes regularly. The Google Core Update from March 2024 is a tool designed to improve our internet searches. When we look at a specific SERP, the goal is to pick the most relevant and fresh stuff for us to see first.
Better quality ranking: We’re improving our fundamental ranking algorithms algorithmically to make sure we present the most relevant stuff on the internet and less duplicate content.
Updated spam policies: We’re making changes to our spam policies to prevent low-quality content from appearing in Search, such as obituary spam and expired websites that have been repurposed as spam repositories by new owners.
Lowering poor quality, unoriginal outcomes
We started fine-tuning our ranking algorithms in 2022 to decrease and maintain very low amounts of irrelevant, unoriginal content on Search. The core update scheduled for March 2024 incorporates the insights gained from that endeavor. To better identify whether webpages are useless, offer a poor user experience, or give off the impression that they were made for search engines rather than humans, we have updated some of our key ranking mechanisms. Sites designed solely to respond to highly specialized search queries may fall under this category.

To keep the lowest-quality content out of search results, we’ve depended on sophisticated spam-fighting tools and spam policies for decades, and that work is still ongoing.
Abuse of scaled content
We have long prohibited the use of automation to produce large amounts of unoriginal or low-quality content with the intention of manipulating search engine rankings. When content was being produced at scale and it was obvious that automation was involved, this strategy was first intended to handle certain situations.
Abuse of site reputation
Websites with excellent original content occasionally post inferior content from outside sources in an attempt to profit from the well-known hosting platform. For instance, a third party may post evaluations of payday loans on a reputable learning website in order to benefit from the site’s ranking. Such material that does well in searches may mislead or confuse users who may have very different expectations for the content on a certain website.
Misuse of expired domains
Sometimes, expired domains are bought and used for new purposes primarily to increase the search engine ranking of unoriginal or low-quality material. This may give users the false impression that the fresh material is a part of the outdated website. Spam is now applied to expired domains that are bought and used again with the goal of making low-quality material rank higher in searches.
